Let the fun Begin
October 20, 2011 - Michael McElwain
Alright my friends. Here we go.
This is my first blog post for the Steubenville Herald-Star, and I suppose I should introduce myself slightly and pace myself. The insanity will begin soon enough.
A few things about me:
- I am a geek.
Technology is not only improving lives and making us more efficient, but it’s also really shiny and fun to play with. You can find me typing away at a keyboard, playing with a mouse, Twittering and blogging right here. When I’m not using the latest gadget or gizmo, I’m usually thinking of ways to have my boss buy me something new.
- I own a cat.
Her name is Penny, and she is crazy. I’m not a cat person, but the cat adopted me, so I’m stuck.
- The greatest band is The Beatles.
I’ve been to several fan conventions and spent lots of money to see Ringo and Paul in concert on numerous occasions.
- Country living is the best.
I reside on five acres in Jefferson County – enough to make it a summer mowing nightmare but not nearly enough to become rich through shale.
- Newspapers are cool.
Immediately prior to this Herald-Star gig, I was a reporter with the East Liverpool Review and covered both Hancock County and East Liverpool. Being a reporter is a tough job, but it’s rewarding. Expect to see my byline on occasion since I hope to keep my foot in that door as well.
- Captain Kangaroo was cool.
I remember watching the show before school every morning. I think it aired on WSTV TV 9 – perhaps the greatest television station in the world at one time. I miss Red Donley.
I could go on and on, but I will save that for a later blog. I doubt if you will learn anything new by reading and there will be little insight, but hopefully it will be at least slightly entertaining.
Here we go.
