Bus extension a welcome addition
A sensible move for public transportation in the area is under consideration and should be implemented by mid-2010. Steel Valley Regional Transit Authority buses will roll into the village of Wintersville to carry passengers to and from destinations, effectively linking each end of the village, as well as linking the village, Steubenville and Mingo Junction and points in Weirton via public buses. There was a time up until the mid-1970s when a privately owned local bus system was able to carry passengers between Weirton and the far end of Wintersville, along Bantam Ridge Road. Over time, the ability to make a profit in private businesses operating public transit systems declined here as across the nation. The public-owned systems that replaced them locally were small, building over the years as the population aged and the need for public transit increased. The return to Wintersville by local mass transit makes sense.
