TORONTO — Pupils at S.C. Dennis School leaned about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery in Washington, D.C., during a special Veterans Day assembly held Nov. 10 at the school. The event included guest speaker David Rhoades, past commander of Toronto American Legion Post 86, telling pupils the meaning of Veterans Day and about the soldiers’ monument in the nation’s capitol, according to Patti Quinn, school principal. “This is the 10th year we’ve hosted a Veterans Day ceremony,” said Quinn, adding the event was held in the school gymnasium. “Our list of veterans (attending) keeps growing and growing. We asked our (S.C. Dennis) Parent-Teacher Organization to come up with a list of veterans as well. We’ve also contacted the Toronto American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6906 to let them know about the ceremony.
