Burglar, sex offender get prison time
By MARK LAW, Staff WriterSTEUBENVILLE - A burglar who admitted to breaking into a downtown pharmacy six times and a convicted sex offender who failed to notify authorities of his address were sentenced to prison Monday by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Bruzzese Jr.
Francis Shriver, 32, of 326 S. Fifth St. pleaded guilty to a bill of information charging him with six counts of breaking into Arnas Pharmacy and was sentenced by the judge to three years in prison.
The pharmacy at 425 Market St. was broken into six times in the past year.
Shriver also admitted to a probation violation.
Shriver faced up to 12 months on each of the breaking and entering counts.
County Assistant Prosecutor Samuel Pate and defense attorney Stephen Lamatrice jointly recommended Shriver be sentenced to three years for the breaking and entering charges and the probation violation.
Lamatrice said Shriver cooperated with City Police after he was arrested. Lamatrice said Shriver was addicted to pain killers.
Shriver was sentenced in Jefferson County Common Pleas Court to six months in the Eastern Ohio Correction Center on July 28 after pleading guilty to a June breaking and entering of a pharmacy at Trinity Medical Center West.
Shriver didn't report to the Eastern Ohio Correction Center because of a medical condition.
City Police were notified of an alarm at the hospital on June 14 and found a metal screen around the pharmacy had been cut. Officers went into the pharmacy and found Shriver hiding under a desk. Police reported finding a bag with various tools that Shriver used to break into an exterior door before entering the pharmacy.
Also, Wayne Schooley, 45, who last had an address of state Route 152, Toronto, was sentenced by Bruzzese to one year in prison after pleading guilty to a bill of information charging him with failure to verify his address with the sheriff's department as a convicted sex offender.
Schooley was convicted in October 2007 of sexual battery. He was sentenced to six months in the Eastern Ohio Correction Center, followed by three years of probation. He was ordered to report his address every 90 days to the sheriff for 15 years.
A check in September by federal, state and local authorities to verify the addresses of local sex offenders showed Schooley was not living at the address he had listed.
