Thanksgiving meal planned
FOLLANSBEE - A community Thanksgiving dinner will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, at Hooverson Heights Church of Christ at Rockdale and Church avenues. The dinner is open to everyone, and volunteers and donations of non-perishable food also are welcome. Those interested in helping or attending should call (304) 527-1081 or e-mail dbcooper1962@ gmail.com. Those planning to attend are asked to make reservations by Nov. 25 if possible, though no one will be turned away.
Screenings offered for pre-schoolers
WELLSBURG - The Brooke County School District will hold free developmental screenings for Brooke County children, ages 3-5 and not already enrolled in kindergarten, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the school board office at 1201 Pleasant Ave.
Children will be tested for cognitive, speech and motor skills, hearing and vision. Those interested in participating should call (304) 737-3481 ext. 24 no later than Tuesday.
Church to hold Christmas bazaar
WEIRTON - St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Three Springs Drive will hold a Christmas bazaar from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 14. There will be a variety of Christmas crafts, baked goods, soup and sandwiches for sale.
Center to hold Veterans Day dinner
FOLLANSBEE - The Brooke County Senior Center will hold a patriotic covered dish dinner, with sliced ham as the main course, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday. There will be musical entertainment. Reservations should be made by calling (304) 527-3410.
Church to sell sandwiches
WELLSBURG - Christ Episcopal Church, 1014 Main St., will be selling roast beef sandwich lunches from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.
The cost is $6 for the lunches, which also will include chips, a slice of pumpkin sheet cake and beverage. Individual sandwiches also will be available for $4 each. Take-out and delivery to local businesses and shut-ins is available. Call (304) 737-3432 on that day to place an order.
Crocheting class offered
WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be offering a crocheting class on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
Linda Collett will help participants make a crocheted snowman craft. They should bring a size G hook and black and white yarn and call (304) 737-1551 to reserve a seat.
School to offer Christmas photos
COLLIERS - Christmas family portraits will be available during Colliers Primary School's Christmas in Colliers Arts and Craft Show, which will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the school. Kathleen and Paul's Portrait Gallery will be providing the portraits and will be among a variety of businesses and vendors represented.

Water-sewer board has vacant seat
WELLSBURG - The city seeks a resident to fill a seat on its volunteer water-sewer board.
Eligible applicants must be a Wellsburg resident and registered voter and should submit letters of interest no later than Friday to: Mayor Sue Simonetti, Wellsburg City Hall, 70 Town Square, Wellsburg, WV 26070.
The board meets at 5 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
Festival drawing winners announced
FOLLANSBEE - Winners of the several drawings held during Follansbee Christmas in the Park have been announced.
They are: Rose Barbetta, who won the basket containing $650 in gift certificates; Marlene Doyle, the inflatable snowman; and Mercy Heck, who won the Steelers-Packers Club E tickets and Gold Lot parking pass.
Ron Cipriani, the winner of the 50-50 drawing, donated his winnings to the Follansbee R.E.A.C.H. Program.
Decoration, sandwich sale set
Community of Christ Church at 84 26th Street will be selling a variety of Christmas decorations and Italian sausage and meatball sandwiches from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 14.
Tickets are $6 per person, which includes a sandwich, cole slaw, dessert and a beverage.
