Irene K. Grossi
GROSSI, Irene K., 78, of Weirton, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009.
She was born in Weirton, W.Va., to John and Teresa Olenick Yacos, Sr. on October 2, 1931.
On July 25, 1953, she married John T. Grossi, and together they had five children.
Irene retired as a teacher's aid for Hancock County Schools.
But most of her married life, Irene was a homemaker, where she enjoyed baking, cooking and crocheting while caring for her family.
She was a member of the Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, ISDA Weirtonian Lodge, K of C Ladies Auxiliary, Hancock County Retired School Employees, an active reunion committee member for the Class of 49 and a former member of the Saint Mary's Altar Society.
In addition to her parents, Irene was also preceded in death by a sister, Yelena Yacos, in 1917, and a brother, Rev. John Yacos, Jr., in 1971.
Irene is survived by her husband, John T. Grossi; her two sons, John Valentino (Karen) Grossi of Winston Salem, N.C., and Timothy (Michelle) Grossi of Fredericksburg, Va.; her three daughters, Tanya (Robert) Musick of Morgantown, W.Va., Teresa Grossi of Bloomington, Ind., and Valentina Grossi Bigalke of McKinney, Texas; eight grandchildren, John Roby and Anna Grace Grossi, David and Michael Musick, Melanie Russ, Christopher Grossi, Emma and Ava Bigalke ; two great-grandchildren, Had leigh and Brady Russ; a brother, William Yacos; two sisters, Mary Durham and Helen Eckersberg, all of Weirton
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, W.Va.
Funeral Liturgy with mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Friday, at Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weirton.
Interment will follow at Saint Paul Cemetery, Weirton.
