STRACHAN, George J., 71, of Steubenville, died Sunday, November 1, 2009, in Trinity West.

He was born June 13, 1938, in Steubenville, the son of the late James and Margaret Robinson Strachan.

George was retired from Koppers Chemical Co. of Follansbee, was a member of First Westminster Presbyterian Church, Big Red Boosters, Head of the Big Red "Chain Gang" for many years, received the Big Red Booster appreciation award for many years of volunteer service, he also coached the Spot Bar Steubenville Babe Ruth baseball team and the Christian Youth basketball team for many years.

George is also preceded in death by his wife, Edna O. McClain Strachan on March 22, 2009, and one son, James David Strachan.

Surviving are three sons, George A. (Barbara) Strachan, Scott (his companion, Teresa) Strachan, and James (Michelle) Strachan all of Steubenville; three daughters, Nancy (John) Lelless, Connie (Daniel) Creek and Margaret (Jim) Dugan all of Steubenville; 13 grandchildren, Jodi, Meggan, Samantha, Robert, Jami, David, Madison, Kaitlyn, Morgan, Ryan, Andalyn, Michael and Jommy and five great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, and on Wednesday at First Westminster Presbyterian Church 235 N. Fourth St. from 10 a.m. until the time of Services at 11 a.m. Rev. Robert Shearer officiant. Burial in Union Cemetery.
