Fashions, food and lots of prizes highlighted the Jefferson County Democratic Women's Club annual style show and luncheon at the Stratton Municipal building.

Fashions were by Phyllis' Fashions of Washington, Pa.

The store owner, who narrated the show said purple reigns but black is back and brown has staged a return.

She said there is an emphasis on jackets, scarves and collars, animal prints have become a staple and its a "feminine year, lots of skirts and dresses."

Mix-and-match featuring a series of colorful printed skirts was included in the show that concluded with holiday wear in black and bright red.

Barbara Wilinski was in charge of the style show, doing her usual flawless job.

There were lots of women there whom I know. Esther McCoy traveled to Stratton with me and we sat across from Carm Gentile and her sister, Jo Jo Tarquinio, and Theresa Coppa.

I saw a couple of reminders from my Bantam Ridge childhood. Shirley Main Ohalek, a childhood playmate, and Ruby Haught, who is related to Hudson and Bertie Emler and Janice Brown, all familiar figures in my early life, attended. Shirley's mother, Tilly, had the most wonderful laugh. She laughed when I tried to sell her a rose bouquet I had plucked from her rosebush. She was one of the most kind-hearted people I have ever known and a fast friend of my mother's.

They all live in my memories.

Among the others in attendance were the Losey sisters, Barbara and Lillian; Betty Masters, Lorraine Hazlett, Rosemary Fitzgerald, Ruth Gump, Margaret Frederick, Lil Ferguson, Janice Kliner, Judy Anastasia, Holly Pate and Eileen Krupinski.
