Musical programs, revivals, appreciation top church news

Members of the Steubenville High School Thespians will present excerpts from their upcoming musical, "Godspell," Sunday at 3 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
The musical will be directed by Scott Wolodkin, assisted by George Melhorn at the piano.
The Franciscan University Orchestra directed by Dr. Paul Weber will present a program of Baroque and classical music Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at Covenant. The program also will include opera repertoire directed by Alanna Keenan, a professor.
An offering will be taken at both programs with proceeds going towards the presentation of the Christmas Portion of Handel's Messiah at 7 p.m. Dec. 18.
African choir
The African Children's Choir will appear at First Westminster Church during the 10:45 a.m. worship service Nov. 15.
The choir presents a program of African songs and dances and has appeared in thousands of concerts around the world, including performances at the Pentagon, the United Nations and on Capitol Hill.
An offering will be taken to support the mission and ministry of the choir.
Finley revival
The Rev. George Holley will be the speaker for revival services at Finley United Methodist Church, 958 Lincoln Ave. Services will be held Sunday through Wednesday.
The Finley United Methodist Choir will lead the music. Holley is a general evangelist with the Wesleyan Church and attended college at Marshall University and West Virginia Bible School and College. He has also pastored and was part of a family gospel quartet in which he sang and played guitar. He and his wife, Pattie, live in Crown City. They have two sons.
Sunday morning services will be at 8:30 and 10:45.
Evening services are at 6:30 Sunday through Wednesday.
Brentwood concert
Lynn Modranski, a local Christian singer, songwriter and recording artist, will give a concert at Brentwood United Methodist Church, 148 Stephens St., Wintersville, at 7 p.m. Sunday.
The concert is open to the public, and refreshments will be served after the concert. Modranski has released two full-length albums and a Christmas project, "The Spirit of Christmas," and has been lead singer, songwriter, keyboard and rhythm guitar player for Crossroads to Glory.
Her performance includes music styles ranging from Christian country to inspirational pop. Modranski is worship leader at Sycamore Tree Church and is author of several Bible studies and family related e-books. She resides in Steubenville with her husband, Steve.
Pastor appreciation
Amsterdam Covenant Church celebrated its Pastor Appreciation Month and its 210th anniversary as a church.
The Rev. Mike Thurston, the pastor, was honored for his 35 years in the ministry.
The program highlighted the different churches and young people the pastor and his wife, Deanne, had served during their ministry, and they were presented a plaque.
Th church leadership was acknowledged with gifts and honored for their dedication.
A covered-dish dinner was held and a cake celebrated the pastor's years in the ministry.
Hill Top supper
There will be a soup and sandwich supper at the Hill Top Fellowship Hall at the corner of county Road 46 and state Route 213 Wednesady from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The menu will be home-made soups, sloppy joe and hot chicken sandwiches, pies, hot and cold beverages. Carryouts are available. Donations will be accepted. The proceeds will go to the roof and chimney project for the fellowship hall.
140th anniversary
The 140th anniversary of Hopedale United Methodist Church, 235 Church St., Hopedale, will be celebrated and the Rev. Ruby Foutz honored with a luncheon and program Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
The program will feature a history of the church, recognition of Foutz and music by Allen Sparrow.
Men of Destiny
Men of Destiny of the House of Faith will hold a meeting Nov. 14 at 9 a.m. at the church, 1913 Estelle Ave., for men of all denominations.
A spokesman said the focus will be bettering their relationship with Christ, witnessing to others, helping neighbors, improving the community and building bonds of friendship with men inside and outside of the church.

Amsterdam dinner
The Amsterdam Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold a spaghetti dinner from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday to raise funds for its efforts to establish a monument to veterans of World Wars I and II.
The cost is $7 for adults and youth 11 and older and $4 for children 10 and under.
Unionport youth
The Unionport Methodist Youth Group is developing a list of Jefferson County soldiers who will be spending Christmas overseas, and it needs your help.
The group has raised funds to send care packages to those local soldiers and needs addresses.
If you have a loved one who will be serving overseas this Christmas, send his or her name and troop mailing address to unionportmyg@yahoo.com by Nov. 27.
First Christian party
First Christian Church, 220 N. Fourth St., will hold its Harvest Party Sunday after the morning worship service.
