George’s Run UMW plans projects
Plans for projects and events and a Prayer and Self-Denial Program highlighted the October meeting of the George's Run United Methodist Women held in the church social hall.
The "Quiet Day Service/A Call to Prayer and Self-Denial: Creating Communities Through Information Technology" was presented by Gladys Merckle. Assisting were Janie Wittmer and Beth Borsos. The annual special offering was received.
Borsos led the Spiritual Growth Study "Food and Faith," which explores the ways food creates community, offers hospitality to strangers and expands readers' concept of neighbor. The topics were "Food and Spirit," "Food and Justice," "Dining With Jesus" and "To Take Action."
Correspondence regarding a new Ohio Valley District United
Methodist Women's Unit was read and local unit goals for 2009 were reviewed. The local unit will become inactive at the end of the year.
Wittmer and Merckle attended the Fall District Meeting held at the Shadyside Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Women. The theme was on Native Americans.
Campbell's Soup labels and Box Tops for Education were sent to Red Bird Mission. A donation will be sent to Urban Missions for a Thanksgiving basket. The Sunday School class dinner will be held Dec. 12. The next meeting will be held in December.
Prayer Calendar readings were by Wittmer, Merckle and Beth Borsos.
Wittmer's devotions were "Christ Has No Hands." The Response moment was "The 2010 Reading Program: Addressing Current Issues."
The World Thank program and offering was led by Merckle, assisted by Wittmer and Borsos.
