Catholic parishes plan Valentine’s Extravaganza

February 4, 2011
From staff reports

WINTERSVILLE - Wintersville Catholic Parishes are holding their second-annual St. Vincent DePaul Valentine's Extravaganza on Feb. 13.

The fundraiser will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Social Hall, Sargus Hall, 852 Main St.

"The event consists of local artisans including bakeries, handcrafted items, an author and a variety of impressive vendors from the Ohio Valley," said Linda Freed, vendor coordinator. It also will include a drawing for unique gifts, and vendors will be selling their products to festival guests.

"It is a perfect time to buy or sell that special gift for Valentine's Day and help support St. Vincent DePaul," Freed said.

Some of the vendors include Dolce Pizzelles Cookie Co. with gourmet-filled pizzelles; cookbook author Theresa DeCaria with "The Table My Mother Set;" Thera-Jewel with therapeutic magnetic jewelry; Lena's Handbags with fashion purses and wallets; Pampered Chef; Tea-Lightful Treasures, tea consultant; Nicole Radvanski with crocheted scarves; TS Chocolates featuring chocolate-covered walnuts; Stella's Cookies; and Mary Kay.

Vendor participation includes a $20 table space fee with checks made payable to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at 852 Main St., Wintersville, OH 43953. It also requires donating a gift for the drawing and donating 10 percent of profits from the event.

For information about becoming a vendor, contact Freed by phone at (740) 264-6539 or by e-mail at dolcepizzelles@aol.com.

"This fundraiser was a huge success last year and helped a lot of people in need during these tough economic times," said Elane Renzelli, director of the St. Vincent DePaul Society of Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Lourdes.

The society distributes free food monthly to qualified households in the Wintersville and Bloomingdale areas. In 2010, households received more than 24,000 balanced and planned meals packed by the volunteers.

The society also distributes Easter baskets and candy, Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets and children's gifts. Distribution information is available by calling (740) 264-9547.
