Committee plans upcoming activities

The Wintersville Special Events committee has announced its annual activities. They include:

April 9: A fashion show will be held from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building.

April 23: Sunny the Bunny will be at the Wintersville Gazebo, across from Walnut Park, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to hand out prize-filled eggs, take pictures and offer a chance to win a stuffed rabbit or an Easter basket.

June 11: A concert will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Walnut Park.

July 4: Annual parade, memorial service and free picnic in the park.

Committee chairman Dee Martin said there are tentative plans for additional concerts, karaoke in the park and a kid's beach party.

Woman's Club hosts luncheon

The Wintersville Woman's Club invites women from the area to attend its luncheon meetings held at noon the third Thursday of each month at St. Florian Hall. The next meetings will be:

April 21 - "April Showers Bring May Flowers," presented by Edna Walley, master gardener from DiGregory's Greenhouse and Garden Center.

May 19 - "Make It, Bake It, Take It Auction," with Lil Ferguson as auctioneer.

Celebrate Recovery meetings set

The Upper Ohio Valley Celebrate Recovery program meets in larger groups at 6 p.m. every Thursday at the Brentwood United Methodist Church located at 148 Stephens St. in Wintersville. Smaller groups meet at 7 p.m.

The program is a 12-step recovery program for drug, alcohol, gambling addictions, hurts, hangups and habits and is open to anyone who wants to change his or her life, according to organizers.

Softball league to hold registration

Registration for the Tri-State Girls Softball League will be held today and Saturday at the Wintersville Elementary School cafeteria.

The league will feature play in three divisions: T-ball, ages 5-7; ages 8-12 and ages 13-18. The cost is $45 for the first child and $40 for the second child. All new players must bring their birth certificate to the registration.

Registration will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Martial Arts Club open house set

Powers Martial Arts Club will hold an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 2-3 at its new location, the former Wintersville Elementary School at 125 Fernwood Road.

Area residents will be able to tour the new facility as well as sign up for classes, owner Bill Powers II said.

Classes are $50 per month and are offered three days a week for different age groups. The age groups include: "Power Rangers" for 4-6 year-olds; "Beginners" ages 6-12; and "Advanced" for teens and adults.

Church hosts bereavement group

A bereavement support group, led by the members of Two Ridges Presbyterian Church at 1085 Canton Road and Charity Hospice Director Debbie Yoklic, meets at 11 a.m. the third Thursday of each month. Members of the community are invited. The next meeting will be held April 21 at the church.
