OPINION: Village offers clean-up services

May 27, 2011
By Phyllis Foreman , The Herald-Star

Well Wintersville, spring is finally here. The sun is shining, and flowers and trees are blooming. We are opening our drapes and letting the sunshine in.

We are also getting the lawn furniture and lawn equipment ready. This means being in the garage and the storage areas. Now is the time we begin to consider getting rid of a lot of things held over from last fall.

The village intends to help by picking up these discarded objects for you during specified clean-up days.

Village crews will not take:

Dangerous chemicals, flammables or explosives.

Mercury light bulbs.

Tires; however tires can be taken to Cross Creek Township maintenance building June 6-7.

Batteries.

Power lawn equipment (unless gas tanks are empty).

Propane tanks and other pressurized containers.

Paints and similar substances.

Refrigerators, air-conditioners, dehumidifiers.

Bio-hazard and medical waste materials.

Mattresses and bedding; however, they can be placed in the storage bin at the village garage.

If your garbage day is Tuesday, your clean-up day is June 6; Wednesday collection's clean-up day is June 13; Thursday's collection clean-up day is June 20; and Friday's collection clean-up day is June 27.

This is one of the many services the village offers residents to help them keep their homes and yards tidy.

If you look around the village, the residents do a fantastic job of keeping their places neat and attractive.

I personally am proud to be a resident of the village and hope to continue offering services to the residents.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the village sanitation department at (740) 264-7171.
