Looking for job in shale industry? Visit website

February 12, 2012
From staff reports , The Herald-Star

Individuals looking for a job in the shale oil and gas industry can access job openings by visiting the online directory at

Developed by Joseph Barone, brings the oil and gas industry together with local businesses in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio and New York. The website has a database of 160,000 businesses in the Marcellus and Utica shale region, which includes the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia, Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.

"While jobs seekers have seen numerous new stories about tens of thousands of jobs coming with the drilling, they have been frustrated because these jobs have not been easy to find," Barone said. "These jobs are posted on the websites of many of the oil and gas operators, but the websites are difficult for job-seekers to navigate. On most websites, the jobs are not identified as Marcellus or Utica shale jobs."

Barone said has a section of job titles, descriptions and education/experience requirements from the American Petroleum Institute, information job-seekers need to help determine which jobs best fit their education and experience.

He said they currently have listings for 26 jobs, but points out that many of the companies need a number of individuals for each job posted, so the listings in actuality represent "hundreds of job openings."

"We understand the plight of today's job seeker and have made the jobs very easy to find and apply for," Barone said, adding the need for workers "is only going to increase as Pennsylvania and West Virginia's drilling activity remains active and Ohio begins to ramp up."
