Brooke tops Linsly

WELLSBURG - The Brooke boys tennis team nipped visiting Linsly, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon. The teams split the singles matches, but the Bruins took two of three in doubles for the victory.

Brooke's Jackson Carey blanked Marcus Saludas, 8-0, and Ryan Mezan earned an 8-2 win over Dustin Kim. Linsly's Jose Bird topped Brian Gialluco, 8-4, and Weston Meade beat Bryce Kesling 8-4.

In doubles action, Kesling and Mezan defeated Meade and Nicholas Kinyanjui 9-7 and Bryce Hickey and Josh Harrick downed Nate Marhefka and John Jobrial 8-3. The Cadets' Bird and Saludas beat Gialluco and Carey 8-6.

Maroon Knights beat Bears

CHESTER - The Wheeling Central boys tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over host Oak Glen after sweeping the doubles matches.

In singles action, Oak Glen's Zach Brown beat Brett Szeligo, 8-2, and Addison Sayre topped Daniel Lee, 8-6. The Maroon Knights' Jacob Myles downed Tyler Brown, 8-1, and Jonathan Haley defeated Josh Lehman, 8-4.

In doubles play, Mayles and Szeligo beat Brown and Brown, 8-2, Haley and Lee stopped Lehman and Sayre 8-4 and Ben Gordon and Billy Teufel nipped Alex Bennett and Teddy Adkins 8-6.

Tri-State Softball sets registration

WINTERSVILLE - Registration for the Tri-State Girls Softball League will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wintersville Elementary School cafeteria.

The cost is $50 for the first child and $45 for the second child.

All new players are asked to bring their birth certificate.

The league will include play in three divisions: Ages 5-7, ages 8-12 and ages 13-18.
