WEIRTON - The Madonna baseball team committed more errors (four) that it had hits (three) and that is not a good equation to begin the season.
Bishop Donahue pushed across single runs in the third and fifth innings for a 2-0 victory Thursday at Bowman Field.
The Bishops are 3-0. It was the Blue Dons' opener.

Brooke wins opener
NEW CUMBERLAND - The Brooke baseball team opened its season Thursday at Oak Glen and came away with a 9-2 victory.
The Golden Bears fell to 0-3.
Sophomore Heath Hildreth led the offensive attack with a single, double and four RBIs. Brett Pellen picked up the win and helped his case with a single, double and two RBIs.
Paul DiPasquale and Alec Buchmelter each added a pair of singles.
Jeff Hissam singled and doubled for Oak Glen and Bub Haddox added two singles.

Lady Bruins top Bears
WELLBURG - The Brooke softball team won its first game of the season in three outings with a 10-0 victory over visiting Oak Glen Thursday.
Shannon Reardon led the offense with a double and two RBIs. Cassi Camilletti added two singles and an RBI and Marena Cline an RBI.
Kaylee Kuchinski earned the win in five innings of work. She struck out seven and walked one.

WEIRTON - The Weir softball team lost 12-2 in four innings to Wheeling Central Thursday at Weir High School.
Caitlyn Fodor had a strong game at the plate with two doubles for the Red Riders. Taylor Gianangeli, Hayley McLaughlin and Ashlynn Drizake all had singles.
Weir (1-1) is on the road at St. John Central Saturday.

LINSLY - The Madonna softball team held a 2-1 lead after 3 innings Thursday against Linsly, but the host Cadets answered with four in the bottom of the third inning and went on for an 8-2 victory.
Sara Lyons singled and Doubles and Amanda Paul doubled and had two RBIs for the Blue Dons, who are 0-3.

Oak Glen beats JM
GLEN DALE - The Oak Glen boys tennis team defeated John Marshall 4-3 Thursday at John Marshall High School.
Picking up singles wins for the Golden Bears were Zach Brown in No. 2 singles and Addison Sayre in No. 4 singles.
Brown beat Bret Nodolsyi, 8-2, and Sayre topped Austin Litman, 8-0.
In doubles Josh Lehman joined Sayre to beat Litman and John Miller, 8-3, while Alex Bennett and Teddy Adkins topped Ralph Howe and Joey Dunfee for a win in No. 3 doubles.
John Marshall's wins were by Hayden Blazer, 8-1 over Tyler Brown, Miller, 8-4, over Lehman and, 8-4, Hayden and Blazer over Brown and Brown.
Bears lose to Knights
NEW CUMBERLAND - The Oak Glen girls tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Wheeling Central on Wednesday.
Haley Spurlock picked up a victory for the Golden Bears by defeating Brynn Jenkins, 8-5, at No. 3 singles. At No. 2 doubles, Oak Glen's Lauren Pizzuro and Maddy Hill teamed up to defeat Bianca Saporito and Kayla McLaughlin, 8-4.
For Wheeling Central, Natalie Capito beat Anna Crawford (8-3), Joanna Capito blanked Solita Krauss (8-0), Christine Gompers topped Abbi Sayre (8-4), Capito and Capito beat Crawford and Sayre (8-2), and Brynn Jenkins and Gompers defeated Krauss and Spurlock (9-7).
