WEIRTON - The Weirton Madonna tennis team swept Weir High Wednesday at Starvaggi Park, 4-3 (boys) and 6-1 (girls).
For the boys in singles activity, Madonna's Mick Conforti beat Tyler Conrad, 8-0; Matt Conforti topped Alex Hannah, 8-2; Anthony Clements defeated Shane Davis 8-2. Weir's Stephen White downed Alan Alimario 8-0.
In doubles play, Conforti and Conforti blanked Davis and White 8-0. The Red Riders. Matt Barnes and Stephen Maragos nipped Clements and Alimario 9-7, and Blake Cassels and Nick Village beat Dominic Clement and Dustin Parr 8-3.
The Lady Blue Dons swept the four singles matches as Amy Davis beat Catie Givens, 8-0, Lisa Parkins downed Meghan Finton and Tina Conforti beat Lauren Mills both by 8-2 scores and Ali Welch stopped Ashley Saver 8-5.
Weir's lone win came at No. 3 doubles as Mikayla Zias and Morgan Cassels beat Annie Frankovitch and Early Fownier 8-1.
Davis and Parkins beat Finton and Saver 8-3 and Welch and Conforti topped Givens and Mills 8-2.
Potters down Big Red
EAST LIVERPOOL - East Liverpool earned a 3-2 victory over visiting Steubenville Big Red Wednesday. The Potters swept the singles matches and Big Red the doubles competition.
In doubles action, Michael Petrides and Brandon Llewellyn defeated Joey Bickerton and Nick DiLoreto 7-5 3-6 and 7-1 in the tiebreaker due to darkness; and Tyler Casto and Hannah Meyer beat Derek Munoz and Andrew Hutchman 3-6 7-6 (7-1), 6-1.
In singles activity, Craig Miller topped Aaron Bottegal 6-1, 6-3; Nick Harris downed Michael Nodianos 7-5, 6-1 and Alex Hoeffler beat Josh Fordham 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.
Big Red hosts Weirton Madonna Tuesday.
