STEUBENVILLE - Area residents searching for work had a chance to meet with prospective employers face to face Wednesday during a job fair at the Fort Steuben Mall.

Within the first hour, staff from Jefferson County Connections had counted nearly 100 participants.

"There's been quite a bit of activity," Consol Energy recruiter Brent Losee said. "It seems busier than last year when we were here."

Randy Jones, electrical supervisor for Warren Steel, was looking for skilled workers, including electricians and millrights. Minutes after the job fair opened, he said, "I had 10 resumes here, and a lot of people were taking information for their friends."

Dozens of companies were represented at the event, including a handful of oil and gas related industries.

Denise Mosti of Empire said she'd been unemployed since February.

"I have a Class A CDL so I want to go back to driving," she said, adding that she was "determined" to get a job before she left.
