Pupils in second-grade classes at Pugliese West Elementary School, Steubenville, recently participated in a "Goop for a Goat" service project to provide the gift of livestock to a needy family in a Third World country.
The students produced, marketed and sold "Goop," - a "fun slime to play with" - over a three-day period recently to the student body. It was sold for $1 a bag to generate funds to purchase a goat for a needy family through the nonprofit Heifers International, which provides livestock to those in need. The pupils, whose goal was to raise $120 to buy one goat, were inspired after having read "Beatrice's Goat," the true story of how the life of a family in Uganda was forever changed after having received a goat from Heifer International.
