STEUBENVILLE - Sol Rose III, 41, of 1311 Jefferson St. was found guilty Wednesday by a Jefferson County Common Pleas Court jury of two counts of felonious assault and aggravated robbery in connection with a Feb. 11 stabbing on North Third Street.
The jury deliberated about two and one-half hours before returning with the guilty verdicts.
Rose was seen in a Speedway security video watching customers as they are paying for items at the counter around 5 a.m. on Feb. 11. The victim purchased two bottles of soda and cigarettes and received about $38 in change. Rose was seen on the video immediately walking out of the store behind the victim.
County Assistant Prosecutor Jeffrey Bruzzese said Rose followed the victim across the Speedway parking lot and down North Third Street. The victim at his apartment steps turned and asked Rose why he was following him. Bruzzese said Rose began stabbing the victim about seven times to the head, neck and side of the body. Rose took the victim's wallet, Bruzzese said.
An upstairs neighbor looked out his window and saw the stabbing taking place. The neighbor opened a window and threw a chair at Rose, striking him, Bruzzese said.
The victim told police after the stabbing that the attacker was at Speedway just minutes before the stabbing. The victim picked Rose out of a group of six pictures as the man who stabbed him.
Common Pleas Judge David Henderson scheduled sentencing for 2 p.m. on May 30.
