Our world is too unkind

May 19, 2012
The Herald-Star

To the editor:

Recently I came in contact with a former student of mine who now lives in Weirton and in turn began reading articles in The Weirton Daily Times and the Herald-Star.

The letters to the editor showed me that I have been too silent about my own opinions. Being 70 years of age, I have experienced too much bigotry to let statements of the far right, so called Christians, tax shirkers, tea party, Fox News and the Republican lies be unchallenged.

Apparently, the Constitution is a pick-and-choose menu - like this, don't like that.

Then there are those Christians who ignore Christ's words with their hate and want their rights at the expense of other religions.

How about cutting taxes many times and don't bother paying for war and services.

Then there is the tea party conglomeration of conservative Democrats, wealth protectors and Republicans - where are the moderates -and the exaggerations of Fox News and the unfettered Internet.

Too many people do not take responsibility for what they say or do.

Finally, health care - we expect prices to be lower, yet so little is done to fix the system. Less health care means more welfare payments.

I don't have all the answers. Nobody does. The world is just too unkind today. Hopefully you can see through the lies wherever they are and get to a better future. It's not my future, it's yours.
