Death march remembered

May 19, 2012
The Herald-Star

To the editor:

Jane Kraina, coordinator of the Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor Museum at the Brooke County Public Library, and I want to thank you for the excellent coverage of our special 70th anniversary of the Bataan Death March.

Your April 12 editorial, "War sacrifices are remembered," focused on the gathering, former POWs and the museum. We appreciate your comments about the event, prisoners of war and the museum.

The editorial highlights the significance of this historical march that was glossed over in our U.S. textbooks. Your readers gained a better understanding of the challenges and atrocities of war that transpired during World War II in the Philippines.

The preservation of this World War II collection is a labor of love. We truly appreciate your kind comments, historical data and the relevance of the march.
