STEUBENVILLE -- A third and final reading authorizing the city administration to put a five mill real estate levy renewal on the November ballot was approved Tuesday night during the City Council regular meeting.
In other business the city council heard the second reading for a proposed ordinance to amend the city's table of organization.
The amendment calls for the elimination of a police captain position and the hiring of a night shift police dispatcher in order to put an additional police office on patrol.
The table of organization ordinance also eliminates the Parks and Recreation summer food kitchen staff and summer food program coordinator.
Recreation Director Troy Kirkendall recommended the elimination of those jobs because the recreation board has approved contracting the annual summer food program to Sodexho Food Services.
The council approved a list of 11 structures deemed unsafe.
Second Ward Councilman Rick Perkins had proposed the ordinance and asked his colleagues to consider the ordinance on an emergency basis.
According to Urban Projects Director Chris Petrossi the property demolitions will be paid for with Community Development Block Grant funds.
The properties proposed include 615 N. Eleventh St., 625 N. Eleventh St., 1217 Claire St., 912 Main St., 914 Main St., 916 Main St, 1027 A Wilson Ave., 1027 B Wilson Ave., 208 N. Eighth St, 214 N. Eighth Stand 243 N. Eighth St.
