She was born Jan. 2, 1970, in Steubenville, OH, daughter of mother and best friend, Janet Rensi Smith of Hopedale. Her father, Harold Dewayne Smith preceded her in death March 26, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her grandmother, Tracy Rensi.

Renee graduated from Cadiz High School in 1988 and Malone College in 1992, earning a bachelor's degree in social work. She began her career at Chrittenton Home and Services in Wheeling, WV.: next, she proceeded to children services in Steubenville, OH and worked for hospice in Weirton, WV before joining Gable Care Center, serving there as admissions director and licensed social worker for the past 15 years.

Renee was a member of the Hopedale United Methodist Church, a devoted mother very involved in her son Michael's activities in baseball, basketball and karate, donated much of her time to the Relay for Life programs, did scrap booking; and was an enthusiastic photographer. Perhaps, most important was spending time at Atlantic Beach, N.C. with her family.

Also surviving besides her mother are her two brothers, Rick Smith and Ronnie (Jackie) Smith all of Hopedale; a niece, Nicky (John) Ceculski, and their children, Bryce and Danica of Cambridge, OH; a nephew, Chace (Erin) Smith and their children, Bailey and Ella of Barnesville, OH; many aunts, uncles and cousins, one special aunt, Linda House, who she loved dearly. They all had instilled family values that were a huge part of her life. Renee is also survived by Michael's dad, Chris McGill who is a trusted and loved family member.

She also leaves behind her beloved co-workers and her administrator from Gable Care Center. They remained by her side and gave their unwavering love and support to her and her family until her passing.

Friends may call at Blackburn Funeral Home, 324 High St. Hopedale, OH, Thursday May 24, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services are there Friday, May 25 at 11 a.m. Pastor Ruby Foutz will officiate. Burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Hopedale.
