makes picnic plans
The Sveta Petka Kolo of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church in Steubenville held its monthly meeting May 3 at Eat 'n Park with 11 members in attendance.
The group voted to help sponsor seven Sunday School children to attend Shade Land Camp.
The women also set July 25 as the date for the annual picnic at the Serbian Picnic Grounds with the Greek and Russian women.
The meeting also included the acknowledgement of birthdays.
The next meeting will be Thursday at noon at Scaffidi's Restaurant.
'Blessed Soles'
benefit planned
A "Blessed Soles" shoe style show will be held July 15 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the YWCA of Steubenville, located at 320 N. Fourth St.
The event is being sponsored by Greater Zion Temple Church. All proceeds will go toward the purchase of shoes for the children in the community for the shoe giveaway planned for Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, which is located at 500 N. Fifth St., Steubenville.
Tickets are available for a $10 donation, and sponsors are being sought.
Light refreshments will be served.

Coffeehouse set
for June 1
The Christian Coffeehouse for Women will be held June 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Marland Heights Community Church located at 3900 Brightway, Weirton.
The evening is sponsored by Cup of Life Ministries with Tina Schoolcraft as the Bible teacher.
There will be a complimentary coffee bar and desserts with free child care provided for children in preschool to fifth grade.

Bell Chapel site
of special service
Bell Chapel United Methodist Church on state Route 213, Steubenville, will honor servicemen and women and graduates at a special service Sunday set to begin at 10 a.m.
The service also will include the dedication of the church's new sanctuary lights in memory of Bill Kunkle.
A hot dog and hamburger picnic will follow the service.

at Piney Fork
The Piney Fork Presbyterian Church, in cooperation with the Piney Fork American Legion and its auxiliary, will hold its 11th-annual Ritual of Remembrance on Sunday at 9 a.m. during the regular worship service.
Janice Reed will deliver the morning message entitled "Safe Within Our Borders."
The Piney Fork Sunday School children will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
Also participating in the service will be Tom McCain, commander of Post No. 735; Tony Phillippi; Barbara Phillippi; Buckeye Girls and Boys State representatives from the Piney Fork Post; Dustin Kinsey and Tim Turner, trumpeters; Darla Hannen, pianist; and Bill Duvall, a veteran from the Smithfield Presbyterian Church, offering a special reading.
Refreshments will be served following the service.

Then learn Italian, in "Italiano per Inizianti," says instructor Domenico DiBacco, who will offer an eight-week introductory course to the language and culture of Italy, part one for beginners, and part two for those who complete the first.
Malara Hall at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2608 Hollywood Blvd., Steubenville, will be the location of the course that runs from June 26 through Aug. 14
Part one is for beginners, and part two is for those who attended part one
The courses are every Tuesday for eight weeks from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for part one and 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for part two.

Spring revival at Mount Carmel
Mount Carmel Community Baptist Church at 708 N. Fifth St., Steubenville, will be having its annual spring revival May 30 through June 1, featuring guest revivalist Pastor Lance B. Whitlock of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Canonsburg, Pa.
There will be guest choirs nightly.

lawn festival set
Grace Lutheran Church, 2105 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, is gearing up for its annual lawn festival which will be held June 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will include entertainment, food and crafts.
Gospel H.I.M.S.
to sing in Scio
The Scio Presbyterian Church, 101 N. Eastport St., Scio, will host a performance by the Gospel H.I.M.S. on June 3 at 3 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Refreshments will be served. A love offering will be taken.
Luau theme for
St. Agnes CWC
St. Agnes Catholic Woman's Club Spring Gala was held in the parish hall with a luau theme.
The Rev. James Dunfee gave the welcome and the opening prayer.
Entertainment was provided by the Vinyls, who performed songs from the 1950s and 1960s.
The menu was provided by Vincent Bonomo Catering and the cake was from Baker Boys.
Guests were Peg Mathews, Sophie Schoolcraft, Karen Chichick, Donna Chichick, Bill and Rita DiMarzio and Edward Sohovich.
There were door prizes presented. Special drawing winners were Christine Barrett, first prize, and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Mihalyo, second prize.
Favors were given to everyone.
Barbara Crugnale was the event chairman. Assisting her were Lorraine Golec, Dorothy Mazik and Clara Sue Milewsky.
The next meeting of the St. Agnes Catholic Woman's Club will be held Aug. 28.
Garage, bake sale
at area church
The Norma Freer Missionary Society will hold a garage and bake sale on June 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Smithfield Friends Church garage in Smithfield.
Church to hold food, yard sale
Olde St. John's Episcopal Church at the intersection of Eldersville and St. John's roads, Colliers, will be selling strawberry shortcakes and other food and yard sale items during the St. John's Road community yard sale June 2.
The fundraiser, which also will include taco in a bag and hot dogs, will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There will be a variety of items for sale.
