Members of the Smithfield United Methodist Women's organization dressed in the era of elegant hats, frilly dresses, gloves and shawls for their May meeting held in the church social room.
Carolyn Rea wore a pair of granny shoes, Sherry Matthews dressed in the 1920s style of the "Great Gatsby" movie, Liz Matthews wore a long-length dress trimmed in lace, and Virginia Young had on a cloche hat in the style of the 1950s.
Ethel Kerwood was the hostess and served finger foods and a variety of flavors of tea.

Members brought their favorite tea cup, including some delicate china cups such as the Stafford English china brought by Young.
Kerwood read a poem she wrote on recalling memories of days past. Young gave the welcome and conducted the business meeting.
The group has been inivted by the Wintersville UMW to a tea in June and had the approval of the group for a July 18 picnic at the home of Betty Ruttencutter. Members are to bring a covered dish and a guest.
A skit was presented on "Tools," with Nancy Grimm, acting as the carpenter who explains to the feuding tools that each is necessary in the building of any structure. The tools were Kim Spell, Lorrie Greene, Tina Corder, Liz Matthews, Sherry Matthews, Rea and Betty Ruttencutter. The plane, hammer, gimlet, screw driver, saw, sandpaper and pliers finally came to see that each was important. Likewise, the carpenter explained, the body has different members and needs them all to succeed in doing work.
Sherry Matthews spoke on "People Seeing Jesus in You." "I have done lots of praying with people in the Dollar Store, Riesbeck's and McDonalds. I know they can see Jesus in you if you are really sincere," she said. Members joined in the singing of "Plenty of Room in the Family" by Gloria and William J. Gaither.
