SMITH, Jr., Rev. C. Edward, 57, of Brilliant, Ohio, formerly of Martins Ferry, Ohio, passed away Monday, July 2, 2012, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio.
He was born March 5, 1955, in Cross Lanes, WV, a son of Carl Edward Smith, Sr. of Hurricane, WV and the late Carol Ann (Lilly) Smith.
Ed received his Associate of Science degree from Montreat Anderson College and his Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Charleston. He later went on to grad school at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he earned his Master of Arts degree, a Master of Divinity from the same, and another Master of Arts degree in Northwest Semitic Philology from The University of Johns Hopkins. He worked as a minister at the Brilliant First United Presbyterian Church for the past four years. He is also an educator, having been a professor at WV Northern Community College teaching Sociology, History and other Social Science courses. Ed also has a passion for music, having been in numerous bands and performing at various events across the Ohio Valley. He is also a member of the Brilliant Lions Club and an avid WV Mountaineers fan.

In addition to his father he is survived by four sons, Benjamin (Stephanie) Smith of Tampa, FL, Samuel Smith of Grand Rapids, MI, Eddie Smith of Martins Ferry, Ohio and Elijah Smith of Brilliant; four daughters, Mandy Smith, Carol Smith, Kirstin Smith and Lauren Smith, all of Martins Ferry, Ohio; a brother, Brian (Wenge) Smith of Hurricane, WV; and a granddaughter, Savannah Smith.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant on Sat. July 7 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Sun. July 8 at 2 p.m., with The Rev. Andrew Wood officiating. Private burial at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens in Cross Roads, WV.
