Dorothy Smith

SMITH, Dorothy Kowalik, 93, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2012, at Hospice of the Valley Gardiner Home.

Dorothy was born on April 2, 1919, in Follansbee, WV. She was the youngest of 11 children born to Anna and Michael Kowalik.

She was married in Shreveport, LA, in June of 1942, to C. Robert (Smitty) Smith, of Stubenville, OH. They had one daughter and over the years lived in Ohio, Florida and Virginia. After Smitty passed away in 1976 Dorothy moved to Akron to live with three of her sisters. She stayed there until 2006 when she moved to Phoenix to be near her daughter and her family.

She was an avid Scrabble player and loved the game to the end. She also enjoyed a good hand of poker, or a good joke and always had a ready smile for all her many friends and family.

She was predeceased in death by her parents, spouse and all of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter Debi, her son- in-law Keven, her adored grandchildren, Emma and Conor as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Her joy, laughter and great kind spirit will always be with anyone who had the privilege to know her.

A Private celebration of her life will be held in Phoenix, AZ.
