SWICKARD, Samuel "Bill," 69, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012,, at 4:26 p.m. at City Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born July 2, 1943, in Steubenville, Ohio, a son of the late Samuel G. and Irene Crosby Swickard.
He moved to East Liverpool in 1967 as a meat cutter at Glenmoor Valu King. He later went to Kroger's and then to Sparkle in the Youngstown/ Salem area until his retirement. He owned and operated Sam's Subs and More in Calcutta and Toronto from 1986 to 2006.
A member of the Class of 1961 of Jefferson Union High School, he was a member and usher at the Glenmoor Presbyterian Church where he was active in the Helping Hands luncheons. Bill was a member of Toronto Lions Club and then Calcutta Lions Club, and at one time he was a member of the Knoxville Ruritan Club.
Bill was preceded by a granddaughter Crystal Pendice.
Surviving at home is his wife, Janice Fogo Swickard, whom he married June 15, 1963. Also surviving are a daughter, Tracey Coplin, and her husband, Tom, of East Liverpool; and two sons, Robert Swickard and his wife, Diana, of East Liverpool, and Scott Swickard and his wife, Wendy, of Canfield. There are seven grandchildren, Aaron Swickard, Andrew Swickard, Danielle Pendice, Heather Swickard, Andrew Coplin, Angela Pendice and Kaitlyn Smith; one great-grandson, Peyton Swickard; a sister, Patty Shields and her husband, Jim, of Naples, Fla., and two nephews.
The Rev. Dr. Vel Vais of the church is to conduct services at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
