CAMERLENGO, Mario Dominic, 95, of Hope Mills, NC formerly of Steubenville, to his Lord and his loving wife, Mitzi, on Wednesday, August 15, 2012.
Mario was born May 24, 1917, in Steubenville to the late Dominic and Ida Mancini Camerlengo.
Mario is also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rose "Mitzi" Relotto of Follansbee, whom he was married to for 57 years and his brother, Lelio "Larry" Camerlengo.
Mario enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 9, 1942. Initially stationed at MacDill Field in Tampa, FL, he later deployed to the European Theater of Operations with the 394th Bombardment Group. He left military service as a Staff Sergeant on October 21, 1945.
Mario is survived by his two sisters, Helen Bonitatibus of Boca Raton, FL, Virginia Fato of Steubenville and sister-in-law, Clara Camerlengo; as well as his two daughters, Ida Van Kirk of Steubenville and Marlene (David) Riley of Hope Mills, NC; three grandchildren, Pennie Van Kirk of Steubenville, David M. (Colene) Riley of Tampa, FL, Jennifer (Eric) Jackson of Hope Mills, NC; and four great-grandchildren, Madisyn and Ava Riley and Jordan and Alexandria Jackson.
Mario was a loyal employee of over 45 years to the Schiappa Coal Company and later Anthony Mining Company. He was also a lifelong member of St. Anthony Parish in Steubenville. He held membership in the Theta Chi Alpha Fraternity, American Legion Post 33, Knights of Columbus Council 472, the Sons of Italy and the Dean Martin Festival Committee
Calling hours are Sunday 4-8 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. A funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Msgr. Gerald Calovini, celebrant. Entombment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. There will be a vigil service 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
