Charles Groves

GROVES, Charles A., 89, formerly of Weirton, WV, passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at his home in New Manchester, WV.

He was born on Oct. 13, 1922, in Harmony, PA, one of seven sons of the late Alfred and Lillian Groves.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Emily Schiavo Groves, on April 18, 1985; and four brothers, James, Robert, Richard, and Edward Groves.

Charles was a World War II Army veteran, with the rank of corporal, serving as a gunner in the artillery from Normandy, Omaha Beach to the Battle of the Bulge.

On July 31, 1982, Charles retired from Weirton Steel Corp, where he worked in the treasury and accounting departments.

He was a member of the Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church and the WSX 25-Year Club.

Mr. Groves is survived by his wife Jane; stepchildren Linda and Tom Brown and Caroline Grimm and Charles McCoy; and several step-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Friends will be received Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton, WV.

Additional visitation will be held Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church.

The Rev. William C. Stout will officiate.

Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with military services being conducted by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
