Slate of Brooke Fair activities announced

WELLSBURG - Several contests will be held during the Brooke County Fair, which will be held Friday through Sunday at Brooke Hills Park.

The Brooke County Fair Queen of Queens Pageant will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. It is coordinated by Shirlie Rogers. Winners will receive special awards and there will be a supreme winner at the end.

A silly photo contest held by the fair committee for "shutterbugs" 12 and under. Funny photos of children, adults and pets are sought and will be judged on humor and creativity.

Photos should be brought to the fair's information booth on Friday or by 7 p.m. Saturday. No mail entries will be accepted. Admission to the fair is the registration fee.

An overall grand winner and best of show winner will be named for each age division at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Photos should be 4 by 6 snapshots not taken with professional grade cameras and not framed or digitally altered. Each contestant may enter two photos.

The fair committee isn't responsible for the photos' return.

A chili cookoff will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, with registration from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Any style of chili may be entered and should be brought in a crock pot. The public will be invited to chose their favorite, and cash prizes of $75, $25 and $15, respectively, will be awarded to first, second and third places.

The first place winner also will have their name added to the Stanley Cup of Chili trophy displayed at the fair.

The Brooke County Fair Idol singing competition will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, with registration at 1 p.m.

The contest will have two divisions: age 12 and under and 13 and older. Registration forms, which can be found at the fair's website at, must be signed by a parent or guardian for contestants under 18.

Contestants must provide a karaoke compact disc for their instrumental accompaniment, and it should be labeled with the contestant's name and song selection. Each contestant is limited to one song under 3 minutes.
