The Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association met Sept. 11 at the First Presbyterian Church in Toronto, holding a reception for new retirees before the business meeting.
President Dave Nicholson presided at the meeting where a moment of silence was observed to acknowledge the anniversary of 9/11.
In committee reports, Marguerite Andres, membership chairman, provided informational folders to new retirees, who were invited to join the state and local associations.
Larry Coleman, community service chairman, explained volunteering opportunities that exist in various communities.
Ann Wiley, reservation chairman, noted the next meeting will be held Nov. 13 at Starkdale Presbyterian Church, Sunset Boulevard, Steubenville.
Gloria Renda gave an update on activities at the Old Pleasant Hill Schoolhouse Museum with plans for an Octoberfest and a spelling bee.
Lloyd Wells, necrology chairman, reported that one member had died.
Diane Neptune and Margaret Alice Myers also gave reports.
Linda Smith of Urban Mission Ministries was the speaker. Also on hand was John Buch who discussed changes in the State Teachers Retirement system health care program that affects all retirees.
School supplies were collected for the Neighborhood House.
Any retired teachers from Jefferson County and surrounding Ohio counties are welcome to join the association.

Fun Seekers enjoy
The Fun Seekers met at Undo's in Weirton for an evening of entertainment and prizes.
Brett Cain played the guitar and sang familiar songs.
Prize winners were Betty Owens, the 50/50 drawing; Jeannette Gibson, Undo's dinner; and Mauve Kearney, the Fun Seekers Club dinner.
Door prizes provided by Larry and May Beth Bauer were won by Jean Koualan, Eva Fabianich, Beverly Dibiase, Dorothy Petrovich, Maralyn Ridgway, Peggy Sweeney, Dorothy Means, Ellen Hunt, Barbara Losey and Jeannette Gibson.
