Community carnival was a success

To the editor:

I am writing to thank all of the individuals and businesses who played a part in helping us hold a community carnival in July. When our pastor, Adam Bowman, brought us the idea for a carnival that would be completely free to all who came, we had some doubt that we could accomplish the task. But we prayed much, and God spoke and reassured us that this was something that he wanted us to do, so we set out to make it a reality.

Letters were sent to request donations or money, prizes or food that would be needed. The people responded. On July 29, we held the community carnival. More than 100 parents and children attended. They enjoyed inflatables, a dunk tank, games, food and prizes. We were able to give every child a bag of school supplies and free tickets to enter the Chinese auction, with the chance to win extra prizes. The turnout was way above our expectations, but not above God's.

The following individuals played an important role in this outreach: Anthony Bailey at Move'N and Grove'N Productions; Joe and Tim Anderson of AJT Anderson Construction; DeFelice Pizza; Ennino Barchiesi Construction; the Dove Restaurant; Tom Birney and Scott Campbell of M&M Hardware; Ruth Westfall; Stephanie Glasure; McBane Insurance; Kay Lash; and Atlas Gas.

Our thanks also go out to the congregation of Wintersville Community Chapel which went above the beyond to make this outreach successful. What a blessing for all of us to watch families enjoy the day without the stress of worrying about the cost. In these times of economic hard times, it is important that we do all we can, when we can, to bring joy back to the lives of our families.
