Events ‘Keep the Dream Alive’

Franciscan University of Steubenville, Eastern Gateway Community College and the Martin Luther King Association of Steubenville are joining together in two events to continue to "Keep the Dream Alive."

On Sunday, the three groups will join together to present "Doo Wop for Scholarships," a concert featuring nationally known singing group the Marcels" at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville. The doors will open at 5 p.m. followed by the dinner at 6 p.m. and the performance at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are $35, and reservations can be made by calling (740) 284-5861.

On Nov. 10, the Franciscan University of Steubenville will host the Martin Luther King Association's annual prayer breakfast in the St. Joseph Center on the university campus. Members of the Steubenville and Weirton communities will assemble with the focus on prayer. The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Ashley Steele, executive director of Urban Mission Ministries.

Music for the event will be provided by Linda Spencer of Weirton and Delores Wiggins of Steubenville. Tickets for the event are $10 and can be obtained by contacting Sharon at Urban Mission Ministries at (740) 282-8010.

Event planners are Eugene Gillison, MLK member; the Rev. Richard Davis, vice president for community relations at the university; Jim Baber, vice president at EGCC and president of the MLK Association; Sharon Kirtdoll, treasurer for the MLK Association; Anita Jackson, director of community relations at the university and project coordinator for the "Doo Wop for Scholarships" and member of the MLK Association; and Theresa Jurasko, coordinator of music ministry at Franciscan and pianist for the Sunday program.
