Township bridge to close for replacement

BERGHOLZ - Springfield Township Road 278 (Hump Run) will close at 8 a.m. Monday for about three weeks for a bridge replacement, the Jefferson County Engineer's Department reported.

The bridge is located about one-eighth of a mile north of state Route 524. There will be no through traffic.

Veterans Day program set

FOLLANSBEE - Follansbee American Legion Post 45 will hold a Veterans Day program at noon Sunday outside the post at 998 Main St.

The names of local World War II and Korean War veterans will be read, and there are plans to recognize local veterans of other conflicts at future observances. Gerald "Peck" Blakley, a World War II veteran and the post's longest serving member, also will be recognized.

The Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad and Vets for Veterans group also will participate.

Coffee and doughnuts will be served prior to the program, and a light lunch will follow.

Buckeye athletic committee to meet

RAYLAND - The Buckeye Local Board of Education's athletic committee will meet at 8 a.m. Monday at the high school.

Rec department sets Breakfast with Santa

STEUBENVILLE - The city parks and recreation department will host the annual Breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Dec. 8 at Froehlich's Classic Corner Restaurant.

Recreation Director Troy Kirkendall said registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and registration is necessary.

"The registration deadline is 3 p.m. on Nov. 23. The first 100 registered children ages 12 and under will receive a gift. Registration by telephone is possible by calling (740) 283-6000, extension 4000, or by stopping at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center," said Kirkendall.

City health board to hold public hearing

STEUBENVILLE - The Steubenville Board of Health will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Municipal Building, 123 S. Third St., to accept comments regarding a proposed plan analysis fee, proposed license fees for food service operators, vending locations and retail food establishments operating within the city for the 2013 licensing period.

All currently licensed food operators/vendors and retail food establishments received prior notification of the date, time, place and proposed fee changes by the director of environmental health through the mail in written correspondence dated Oct. 11. Anyone wishing to make comment at the meeting should contact the director of environmental health at (740) 283-6000, extension 1512, prior to the hearing date.

Prevention, recovery finance panel to meet

STEUBENVILLE - The Jefferson County Prevention and Recovery Board's finance committee will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the board office, Suite 600, 500 Market St.,

Wells Christmas parade set Dec. 1

BRILLIANT - The Wells Township Christmas Parade is planned at 3 p.m. on Dec. 1.

Lineup begins at 2:30 p.m. at the North Elementary School on Third Street, organizers said. Plaques will be given to the first-, second- and third-place finishers in the best decorated category.

Anyone wanting to participate can call Liz Cook at (740) 598-3967 or Cheryl Roe at the township office at (740) 598-9602. Organizers said a food drive is planned before the parade. Members of the Brilliant Volunteer Fire Department will go door to door starting at 10 a.m. that day to collect canned items.
