Zelek receives highest honors at Jefferson County Township Association’s annual banquet

Larry Zelek, Mount Pleasant Township trustee, received the Jefferson County Township Association's highest honor by being named the 2012 JCTA Official of the Year at the 45th-annual Raymond C. Amoroso Christmas dinner and awards banquet held Dec. 1 at the Mingo Knights of Columbus Hall.

Scott Fabian presented the award to Charles Strizak, accepting on Zelek's behalf.

The evening also included the presentation of the Hometown Leadership Award to Ray Agresta, Jefferson County treasurer.

Scott Fabian served as master of ceremony at the event attended by 185 guests and where a moment of silence was observed for the late Jim McClain, Mike Dubetz and Bill Cermak Sr., trustees who had passed way during 2012.

The Rev. Mike Bongart of the First Presbyterian Church of Toronto gave the invocation and benediction.

Mingo Councilman John Fabian gave the welcome on behalf of Mingo Mayor Ron DiCarlo, and Lou Vandeborne gave the presidential welcome on behalf of the association.

Speakers were state Rep. Jack Cera,D-Bellaire; state Sen. Lou Gentile, D-Steubenville; Greg Hanahan, Ohio Township Association president; and keynote speaker Matt DeTemple, OTA executive director.

The event also included door prizes and drawings.
