JKYSC registration under way

WINTERSVILLE - Jefferson Kiwanis Youth Soccer Club's spring registration is under way and ends Jan. 31.

The season begins in March.

Go to www.jkysc.com to register before the deadline. The league is open to all boys and girls from ages 4 to 14.

OHSAA umpire class offered

STEUBENVILLE - Classes for beginning baseball and softball umpires are being offered and the deadline for registration in Tuesday.

Registration must be done online at officials.myohsaa.org. Class names are Columbiana County BB Asn (NE) for baseball and Columbiana County SBf (NE) for softball.

Those who pass the course will be able to umpire middle school and junior varsity games and eventually varsity games as well.

WVSSAC umpire class upcoming

WEIRTON - Baseball and softball umpire classes for the WVSSAC are upcoming.

Application forms can be obtained by calling the Weirton umpire secretary at (740) 632-2871. A physical is required along with the application forms and attendance for all classroom time is required.

The location will be determined after registration is complete in order to select a centrally located classroom.

Those who pass the course will be able to umpire middle school and junior varsity games and eventually varsity games as well.

Bowl sheet winner named

BELLAIRE - J.B. Hizer of Sistersville won the St. John Central Boosters Club bowl sheet football drawing.

St. Joseph wins two

WHEELING - The St. Joseph J.V. boys basketball team defeated Our Lady of Peace Blue, 36-18, in Wheeling Parochial League action. The Spartans were led by Evan Boniti with 15 points, while Dom Mazur added 11, including a half-court buzzer beater just before halftime. Vinnie Conforti, Nick Paul, Nico Fuscardo and Nathan Zanieski also scored for the Spartans.

The Spartans also beat Bishop John King Mussio White, 35-33. The Spartans were paced by Mazur's 11 points with Boniti adding 10, including eight in the fourth quarter. Paul chipped in with five points and Jon Luke Horne scored four points for the Spartans.
