Nick Palavis

PALAVIS, Nick, 71, of Weirton, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at his home.

Born on August 20, 1941, in Steubenville, OH, Nick was the son of Sophia Barbush Palavis of Newport Richey, FL and the late Gust Palavis.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Palavis Kellison; his granddaughter, Sofia Palavis, and his nephew, Kirk Palavis

An accountant, area entrepreneur and former proprietor of the Holiday Lanes in Weirton, Nick dedicated his life to his family and to the area youth through his coaching of area baseball teams. He will always be remembered through out the Valley when he coached the Weirton Palomino's for five years. In 1990, he coached his team to the World Series finishing runner up before taking the World Series Crown in 1991. In his last three years at the helm Nick's team went 45 -4; 50 - 3; and 52 - 3. But, his greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his five grandchildren.

Nick was a member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, and the AHEPA Lodge.

In addition to his mother, Sophia Palavis, Nick is survived by his son, Anthony and Kristen Palavis; his daughter, Nicole and David Drobish all of Weirton; his sister, Toni Kaye Palavis of Newport Richey, FL; and his five beloved grandchildren, Mason and Kendall Drobish, Kiara, Melia and Nikos Palavis. He is also survived by Elaine Dragisich Palavis. Nick would like to give Elaine a special thank you for all the care that she has given him during his illness. According to Nick, words could never express his gratitude.

Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. Sunday at the Greco- Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton, WV, where Trisagion Services will be held at 5:30 p.m.

Additional visitation will be 10 until time of services at 11 a.m. Monday at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church. The Reverend Father Frank A. Milanese will preside. Entombment will follow in the Saint Paul Cemetery, Weirton.

Nick and his family would also like to thank Crystal and Judy of Valley Hospice and Dr. Rahman for their compassion and care.
