Harrison board handles personnel matters

CADIZ - The Harrison Hills school board reviewed several developments during its first meeting of the year on Thursday.

In issues of personnel, the board approved OVLA supplemental contracts for Charles Lewis in Science, Karen Carlier in Family and Consumer Science, and Jessica Scott in English/Language Arts.

Also, the board approved a medical leave of absence for Rhonda Littleton for the remainder of the school year.

The board approved Tammy Crall as bus driver and Beth Fink an aide at Harrison East for this school year.

In other business, the board:

Approved Luke Turner as teacher at the junior/senior high school effective Jan. 22 for the remainder of the year.

Approved Jeanna Bracken as the assistant girls track coach.

Authorized the treasurer to notify Principals Sandra Leggett and Jennifer Ryder their contracts will expire in 2013. The board will consider their re-employment.

Confirmed Devon Dettra to teach social studies and AP world history and Teresa Dunlap to teach English and AP English language.

Approved a disability leave of absence for Patty Glover for the remainder of the school year effective immediately.

Approved the retirement of Margaret Edwards effective April 1. Board also approved Luke Turner as a substitute

Approved a reduction in force for Kevin Foster from the mechanic/bus driver position effective Jan. 28. Foster also was recalled as a full-time mechanic effective Jan. 28.

Approved Richard Beatty as reserve softball supplemental and Joshua Leasure, Edwin Jackson and Eric Sheets as varsity softball supplementals.

Approved the resignation of Lisa Marker, aide, effective Monday.

In matters of business and operations, committees were assigned for 2013. Judy Crawshaw will serve on finance, negotiations, curriculum, policies, business advisory, insurance and ad hoc technology committees. Deborah Kenny will serve on finance, vocational school board, student achievement liaison, school records, communications, athletic and personnel committees; Betty Hugh, negotiations, personnel, safety and health, tax review, legislative liaison, student achievement liaison and business advisory; Phil Madzia, buildings and grounds, transportation, athletic, ad hoc technology, insurance, tax review and cafeteria; and Melvin Allen, buildings and grounds, cafeteria, safety and health, policies, vocational school board, transportation and curriculum.

Board members approved the 2013-2014 school calendar and participation in the STAR Plus Program endorsed by the state treasurer and administered by Public Funds Administrators.

Members also OK'd the state minimum wage effective Jan. 1 at $7.85 per hour as the substitute rate for all classified staff positions except bus drivers. Bus drivers' rates will remain $10.85 per hour.

Members also approved a three-year lease purchase agreement for two 77-passenger buses and one handicapped bus from Truck Sales and Service under the state term contract.
