Talent show set for March 15

The fifth-annual Kinsley S. Ard Memorial Talent Show will be held at 7 p.m. March 15 at Weir High School's Milton J. Weinberg Theater.

The contest is open to area children in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Children will be separated into age-appropriate categories, including kindergarten through fourth grade, fifth grade through eighth grade and ninth grade through 12th grade. Children do not have to attend Hancock County Schools to participate.

Cash prizes will be award to the first, second and third place finishers in each category. First prize will receive $100, second $75 and third $50.

Only the first 20 entries in each category will be accepted. Entry fees are $15 for a solo act, $20 for a duo and $25 for groups of three or more. Children may only participate in one act, and all acts must be two minutes in length. There will be a mandatory dress rehearsal March 14 at the theater.

The talent show began in 2009, and March 15 would have been Kinsley's 19th birthday.

The talent show will include a concession stand and Chinese auction, with items donated by local businesses. The 50/50 drawing will benefit the Kinsley S. Ard Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The event is hosted by the Weir High Class of 2014 Parent Group. The event proceeds will benefit the 2014 prom and senior events.

To register, contact Tina Viakley at (304) 723-5558 or stop by the high school office for a complete set of rules and a registration form.

All Class of 2014 parents and students are invited to participate in the parent group. Students will have an opportunity to gain community service hours.
