U.S Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Marietta, has announced that high school students in Eastern and Southeastern Ohio residing in the 6th Congressional District can participate in the 2013 Congressional Art Competition entitled "An Artistic Discovery."
The winning artist will be invited to Washington, D.C., for a national reception and have his or her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
Runners-up will have their artwork displayed in Johnson's Marietta, Salem, Cambridge, Ironton or Washington, D.C. offices. All high school students living in Eastern and Southeastern Ohio are eligible to enter, regardless of where they attend school - public, private, home school or online school.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for high school students in Eastern and Southeastern Ohio," Johnson said. "I have been very impressed by the spectacular artwork submitted the last two years by the talented students in Eastern and Southeastern Ohio, and I would put the artistic talents of those in our region up against any in the country. I look forward to seeing all of this year's entries and proudly displaying their work in my district offices and in the U.S. Capitol."
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 and features artwork from students in nearly every congressional district in the country.
All artwork must be no larger than 28 by 28 by 4, including the frame, and can weigh no more than 15 pounds. The artwork should be original in design, concept and execution. Acceptable media include:

All submissions are due by April 25, and can either be mailed or delivered in person to Johnson's Marietta Office, 246 Front St.; Salem office, 192 East State St.; Cambridge office, 116 Southgate Parkway; or Ironton Office, 202 Park Ave., Suite C.
The top submissions will be selected by a three-person panel of experts, and winners will be notified the first week of May.
Fish dinner at
The Irondale United Methodist Church will host a fish dinner from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday.
The menu will include fish, macaroni and cheese, green beans, cole slaw, roll, dessert and drink.
Cost is by donation. Carryouts will be available.
at Edison High
A spaghetti dinner benefiting the Edison Wildcat football team will be held Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Edison High School cafeteria.
The cost is $7 for an adult meal and $4 for a child's meal age 12 and under.
The menu includes spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert. Water and iced tea are free with the meal with other beverages available at an additional charge.
The event will include a drawing for a basket.
All proceeds going toward the pay-to-participate fund.
The Habitation of God's Glory sponsored by P.O.W. Intercessory Prayer Ministry will welcome special guest Bishop Albert Mitchem of Promise of Victory Church in Colliers on Friday at 7 p.m.
The gathering will be held at the River Christian Fellowship Church located at 183 Nesley St., Empire.

The Steubenville High School Alumni Association will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Scaffidi's Restaurant in Steubenville.
The ninth-annual West Virginia Small Farm Conference will be held Feb. 28 to March 2 at the Waterfront Place Hotel and Conference Center in Morgantown.

The conference brings together many experts, including West Virginia University Extension agents and experienced farmers, leading more than 70 classes covering everything from horticulture to farm taxes.

A youth entrepreneurship workshop gives young agriculturalists an open forum to exchange ideas and learn from professionals.
The annual Winter Blues Farmers Market is open to attendees and the public from 3 to 8 p.m. Feb. 28. Vendors sell everything from local meats and veggies to breads. Admission is free.
A Local Food Dine-Around, featuring food from 15 West Virginia restaurants and locally grown products, will coincide with the farmers market. Tickets for that event will be sold at the door.
