The Evangel University Concert Orchestra will appear in concert at Word of Life Fellowship, 565 Lovers Lane, Steubenville, on Friday, beginning at 7 p.m. the Rev. Gary Hallberg has announced.
The orchestra is on tour through March 10, performing in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Illinois and Missouri.
The repertoire of the orchestra includes classical, sacred and contemporary Christian arrangements, as well as various vocal arrangements with orchestral accompaniment.
Since 1995 the concert orchestra has toured extensively in the United States and abroad. In May 2012, the group completed its fourth European tour, performing 20 concerts in six countries.
On this side of the Atlantic, the orchestra has performed in the 48 contiguous states and in Canada. Highlights from the Canadian tours include appearances in 2001 and 2007 on the Canadian television program "100 Huntley Street," which has an estimated 15.4 million viewers.
The concert orchestra has recorded nine compact discs.
Larry Dissmore, director of the orchestra, has served on the Evangel University faculty since 1988. An accomplished violinist and conductor, Dissmore has performed with professional orchestras throughout the Midwest and served as the music director of the Springfield, Missionary Youth Symphony for nine years. Dissmore holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Wichita State University and the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
