From staff reports , The Herald-Star

STEUBENVILLE - Students at Catholic Central High School are preparing for the presentation of "A Little Princess."

The play will be presented at 7:30 p.m. March 21-23 in the Berkman Theater in Lanman Hall at CCHS.

The production is a new musical written by Tony-nominated composer and lyricist Andrew Lippa and award-winning book-writer and lyricist Brian Crawley.

The story, based on the popular children's novel by Francis Hodgson Burnett, has been made into several motion pictures, including one starring Shirley Temple in 1939. However, the stage show, which features an updated script, score and orchestrations, is new to the Ohio Valley. It's the story of Sara Crewe, a young girl raised as an only child with privilege in a British colony in Africa, who is sent to a boarding school in London. Mistreated by the headmistress and disliked by the other boarders, Sara uses her imagination to help transform the drab institution into a place of magic and mystery. When her father is reported dead and his fortune seized, she is made a servant to the school, but eventually wins the hearts of the other boarders, all the while countering the headmistress' degradation with the grace and virtue of a little princess.

"A Little Princess" is directed by John Luther, with musical direction by Chris Simmons and choreography by Deborah Luther.

Led by the title character, Sara Crewe, played by Katherine Moore, the cast includes Rachel Rigaud (Aljana); Lexi Inomata (Becky); Cuyler Ledyard (Captain Crewe); Jaylynn Buchmelter (Medgarde); Mary Burton (Lavinia); Maria-Grace Luther (Miss Amelia); Mary Grace Thibault (Miss Minchin); Jude Ledyard (Pasko); and Ashley Lamatrice (Queen Victoria).

Advance tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for students and may be purchased at CCHS or at Tickets sold at the door will be $10 for adults and $7 for students. For information, call the school office at (740) 264-5538.
