STEUBENVILLE - Kiplinger Personal Finance Magazine has included Franciscan University of Steubenville as one of its "best values" in private higher education, ranking it among the top 100 private universities in the nation.

"As always, this year's rankings for best values in private colleges and universities identify institutions that are both academically strong and affordable, which is our definition of value," said Jane Bennett Clark, senior associate editor for Kiplinger's Personal Finance.

Franciscan University of Steubenville scored high marks across a range of measurable standards, including the freshmen retention rate, financial aid and the four- and five-year graduation rates.

Included in the top 100 private universities are such nationally recognized institutions as Princeton University, Yale University, Harvard University and Duke University.

The average test scores of incoming students was one of the most highly weighted factors in Kiplinger's formula.

The average ACT score for Franciscan University of Steubenville students this year is 25.9, which is 20 percent higher than the national average. The average SAT score is in the 75th percentile, meaning Franciscan students score better than 75 percent of those taking the SAT nationally.

Franciscan University attracts students from all 50 states and many foreign countries.

The annual Kiplinger top-100 ranking appeared in Kiplinger's December issue.
