Moving On welcomes guests

Moving On met March 10 at Undo's in Weirton with President Norma Boni opening the meeting.

Jack Davis gave the blessing, and Christine Brown gave a reading.

Jeanne Avoli, Ruth Daugherty, Barbara McCoy, Ed Bedouin and Herb Simms were guests.

Nancy Sollinger, Becky Michalka, Jean Baird, Marcia Bishop, Beverly Andreen and Edna Bain donated St. Patrick's Day hats and fresh flowers for table prizes. Norma Boni, Betty Jeffries, Ruth Daugherty, Martha Wright, Jack Davis and Richard Kimmel won table prizes.

Madeline Michael Boulson and Lucretia "Toots" Ross conducted the 50/50 drawing, which Ruth Daugherty won. Nick Rodriguez and Joe Quattrone won the Undo's gift certificates. Other prize winners were Ruth Jackson, Janet Saner and Cindy Gilbert.

Moving On is open to widows and widowers. Those interested in joining can call Janet Saner at (740) 537-4487. Dues are $10 annually and dinners are $12.

The next meeting is April 14.

Masons receive grand visitation

Bethany Chapter 64 received a grand visitation March 9 at the masonic hall, with Mary Lou Chambers, worthy matron, and Jim Dailey, worthy patron, presiding.

The group was visited by Worthy Grand Matron Dee Wanner; Jim Savage, worthy grand patron of the Grand Chapter of West Virginia; and Marilyn Myers, most worthy grand chaplain of the General Grand Chapter.

Seventy-five guests and members attended along with Bonnie Kerr, Wellsburg Chapter 23 grand adah, and Nola Cronin, Bethany grand martha.

The worthy grand matron and worthy grand patron overviewed their projects, which include Wounded Warriors, domestic violence, cancer and scholarships for youth.

A dinner followed the meeting at Bethany Church, with a committee consisting of Helen Moren, Karen Bracey and Mary Jane Kemp assisted by Karol Puskarich and Bruce and Carla Boettcher.

Grange donates to Urban Mission

The Jefferson County Pomona Grange No. 41 members met recently in New Alexandria and agreed to send a monetary gift to Urban Mission Ministries during the Feinstein hunger challenge campaign that proportionately matches contributions.

The literary program featured a St. Patrick's Day and Easter theme. Dixie Turner played the piano.

Unionport Community Grange No. 2728 members will host the May meeting.

Bergholz Ruritans hosting dinner

The Bergholz Ruritan Club will host a roast beef and roast pork dinner on April 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Department.

The menu will include a choice of roast beef or pork, mashed potatoes, vegetable, salad, roll, dessert and beverage. Cost is by donation. Patrons can dine in or get takeout. The event also will include a 50-50 drawing.

Proceeds will go toward various community projects this year, according to a promotional flyer.

Tri-State Writers Society to meet

The Tri-State Writers Society, led by award-winning author Karen Majoris-Garrison of Steubenville, will conduct its monthly meeting on April 9, beginning at 6 p.m. at Scaffidi's Restaurant in Steubenville.

Foundation fundraisers announced

The Pam Shoemaker "Paying It Forward" Foundation has announced its 2013 events schedule and benefactors.

The group will hold a spaghetti dinner from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on April 28 at Holy Family Church in Steubenville. Patrons can dine in or get takeout orders. The event also will include a Chinese auction.

The third-annual golf classic will be held Aug. 4 at Spring Hills Golf Course in East Springfield. Teams and hole sponsors are being sought.

Tickets for the December Secret Santa drawing are available for $20 per ticket and can be obtained at any Shoemaker event or Women In Action Against Cancer Coalition event.

This year's fundraising efforts will benefit the WIAACC for free breast and cervical exams, the Tony Teramana Cancer Center TEAR Fund, Valley Hospice and the Pam Shoemaker scholarship fund for a local graduate.
