The Easter Cross Project is looking back on a "very successful" 2013 campaign as close to 5,000 Steubenville homes were contacted during the five-week citywide canvass, and nearly 2,500 crosses were given out in the same period.
Crosses were given out free of charge; however, some residents gave donations to offset the cost and contribute to the ministry of the Urban Mission Ministries. The gifts allowed the project to give approximately $1,350 to the ministry. Additionally, Starkdale Presbyterian Church gave another $1,000, bringing the total donation to nearly $2,350.
This donation in its entirety will go to assist the Urban Mission in its work in the community.
Many churches across the Valley were involved in the Easter Cross distribution project in particular Word of Life Fellowship, Tower of Power, Holy Family Catholic Church, Calvary Pentecostal Church and Starkdale Presbyterian Church, each of whom served as a distribution center on one of five Easter Cross distribution Saturdays.
A small number of Easter crosses remain available. For information, call (740) 264-1227.
Plans for a 2014 Easter Cross Project will be organized soon. Pastors and churches are encouraged to call Word of Life Fellowship at (740) 264-1227 if they are interested in being kept informed of preparations for next year.
