Philoptochos to

meet Thursday

Twenty-six members of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church's Philoptochos Society met for a dinner meeting April 4 at Lancelot's where President Marianne Balakos presided.

The Rev. Nicholas Halkias gave the opening prayer.

The group adopted a family with 10 children as an Easter project, providing food for their Easter dinner and an Easter basket.

A nominating committee was appointed to elect officers at the next meeting, which will be held Thursday at Janoski's Farm Restaurant.

Monthly charities the group elected to support were: April, ALIVE Shelter; May, TEAR fund at the Teramana Cancer Center; June, Special Olympics; July, Urban Mission Ministries; and August, Salvation Army.

The society also agreed to send a donation to Wendy's "Shoes for Kids."

Toronto Senior

Citizens meet

The Toronto Senior Citizens met at Cornerstone Church for their anniversary dinner on May 9 with guests including Louie Nelson, Jeff Foster, and Don and Cheryl Clarke.

Robert Haught gave the blessing. Entertainment was provided by George Suhon.

Door prize winners were Carolyn Owen, Eileen Emery, Paula Krensavage, Cheryl Clarke, Joyce Dobbs, Dolly Robinson, Carole Eddy, Don Swickard, Emma Haught, Irene Sabados, JoAnn Fogle, Becky Swickard, Jane Hanuscin, Karen Krause, Laura Mamula, Mary Alice Meyer, Violet McClain, Arleen Zahniser, Nannetta Householder, Mary Ann Parker, Jack Doran, David Krause, Pat Rebres, Marjorie Grafton, Leah Bickerstaff and Barbara Lyons.

Richard Dobbs won the 50-50- drawing.

The next meeting will be held May 23 at the Roosevelt Building.

Scat winners were Joyce Dobbs, Jane Hanuscin, Karen Krause and Bill Baier.

Country Friends to host Stone Street

Country Friends will host the Stone Street Station Saturday at the Memorial Hall located on Old Police Lodge Road.

The doors open at 6 p.m., and the dance begins at 7 p.m.

Country Friends holds covered-dish dinners and open mic nights every Monday and Friday at the memorial hall.

The doors open at 4 p.m., the meal begins at 5 p.m. and open mic begins at 6 p.m.

Event to benefit

cancer society

The Presbyterian Hill Top Hoofers For A Cure will sponsor a spaghetti dinner from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Hill Top Presbyterian Fellowship Hall located on co. Hwy. 46, Toronto.

Donations will be accepted.

Beginning at 6:30, there will be square dancing and line dancing led by Richie Coburn.

A donation of $5 will be accepted to event featuring dancing, a cake walk and a Chinese auction. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Three Score

members meet

Tony LaRosa opened the April Three Score meeting with the invocation after being introduced by President Cookie Veltri.

Vice President Rosemary Gaynor introduced "The Music Man" with Jack Grimm and David Hunt as the evening's entertainment.

A Minnie Pearl impersonator will be May's entertainment.

Reports were given by Pat Delekta, secretary, and Frank Fazio, treasurer.

Veltri thanked the auditing committee, which included Jean Ray, Angie Mazur and Mary Ann DiFonzo, for their work.

Membership Chair Nancy Smurda introduced guest Victor Greco. Reservation Chair Vivian Weigel reported 101 members were in attendance.

Sunshine Chair Winnie Kemp reported on cards sent. April birthdays were acknowledged.

Members thanked Kathryn Hardsouk and Joan Villa for decorations.

Regina Truax announced the following club trips:

-- June 7, Sugar Creek;

-- June 12, Viva Las Vegas; and

-- June 16-22, Mackinac Island.

Hospitality Chair Jim Hare presented gifts to Jack Cummings, Barbara Purks, Brenda Edwards, Boyd Barker and Connie Gilbert. Betty Virtue gave Undo's dinners to Betty Virtue, Rosemary Gaynor and Virginia Kucan. Jack Cummings awarded the 50/25/25 drawing to Joan Village and Brenda Edwards.
