NASCAR driver coming to Empire

EMPIRE - NASCAR Sprint Cup series driver Dave Blaney, a native of Hartford, will be at Heavy Duty Industrial's grand opening celebration at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Heavy Duty, formerly based in Wintersville, has relocated to 707 E. Front St., to make room for more workers and equipment.

Cory Jursik, the company's vice president for business development, said Blaney will be available for autographs and pictures from 11 a.m. to about 1 p.m.

Heavy Duty is one of Blaney's sponsors.

Blaney's car will also be on display, a Heavy Duty spokesman said.

Richmond budget available for viewing

RICHMOND - Village Council approved its annual budget during its June 17 meeting.

Wells Township sets budget hearing

BRILLIANT - The Wells Township Board of Trustees will hold a hearing on the 2014 budget prior to the board's next meeting.

The hearing is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. July 9 at the Township Hall, 409 Prospect St.

County Council meeting tonight

PINEY FORK - The Jefferson County Council Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. today at the American Legion Post in Piney Fork. Officers will be installed.

All auxiliary members in Jefferson County with paid dues are welcome.

Buckeye board changes meeting

DILLONVALE -The Buckeye Local Board of Education has rescheduled its June meeting.

The meeting will be held at 8 a.m. Friday at the administrative offices in Dillonvale.

ShaleNET veterans deadline nears

STEUBENVILLE - Veterans interested in obtaining a ShaleNET scholarship to train for a career in the natural gas industry should apply before Friday to www.shalenet.org.

America's Natural Gas Alliance recently established a $50,000 scholarship program for veterans to participate in the ShaleNET training program at Eastern Gateway Community College and Stark State College in North Canton. ANGA's scholarship will provide funding to cover costs for nearly 40 veterans to receive training through the ShaleNET program.

Interested Ohio veterans should visit www.ShaleNET.org and register with "Talent Match" to learn more. Those interested can also contact EGCC, Stark State College or The Employment Source for application materials. To be considered, applicants must provide a DD Form 214, possess a valid driver's license and pass a criminal background check, as well as a drug and physical fitness test.

Concert planned in Newell

NEWELL - The band 7 Percent Superstar will perform at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Laurel Hollow Park in Newell as part of the Newell Community Improvement Coalition's 2013 Summer Concert Series.

The show is free and open to the public. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, but there is amphitheater seating. Food and drink concessions will be available.

The concert is sponsored by the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau. Future concerts include the music of John Edwards at 7 p.m. July 14 and a tribute to Johnny Cash by Bill Crawford at 2 p.m. July 28.
