Camera club holding Chinese auction

The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club will hold a Chinese auction from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Thunder in the Ville Festival below Riesbeck's.

Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Those purchasing tickets may enter their ticket for any matted and framed picture in the auction.

Pictures to be auctioned include a mail pouch barn by Steve Whiting, an eagle by Andy Tindor, a grist mill by Deb Snider, a vintage steam engine by Dave Rees, a waterfall from Old Man's Cave in Ohio by Sam Rees and an Amish buggy by Don Roberts.

The club also is sponsoring a 50/50 drawing and a drawing for a free club membership. The drawings will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Elks holding steak fry Saturday

The Wellsburg Elks will hold a steak fry from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the lodge located at 837 Charles St., Wellsburg.

The meal includes steak, baked potato, green beans, salad, bread and dessert. The cost is $15 per person.

Country Friends to host Eldurays

Country Friends will host the Eldurays on Saturday at Memorial Hall located at 402 Old Police Lodge Road, Colliers.

The doors open at 6 p.m., and the dance begins at 7 p.m.

Country Friends holds covered-dish dinners and open mic nights every Monday and Friday. The doors open at 4 p.m., the meal begins at 5 p.m. and open mic begins at 6 p.m.

Mingo Knights announce events

The Mingo Knights of Columbus of Monsignor Joseph F. Dooley Council 4361 have announced events for July. They include:

Farm Bureau group makes plans

"A Miracle Called Friendship" was read by Mary Ellen Grafton when the Jefferson County Farm Bureau women's promotion and education group met with 15 members present.

Plans were made follow the Jefferson County Fair's theme "Where Dreams are Made" to design their fair booth in the commercial building.

Members were reminded the cupcake demonstration will be held at the former Bantam Ridge School office for the Farm Bureau from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. July 23. It is in conjunction with the cupcake wars contest to be held at the county fair at 10 a.m. on Aug. 15.

Linda Chivers asked about entering a float in the grand parade for the fair and will look into doing so.

Jeanne Roberts, membership chairman, reported on its success in recruiting members.

The group plans to have a canning demonstration in order to obtain a grant from a "Know and Grow" event.

There will be no July meeting, but members will meet in August to refurbish a flower bed at the fair grounds and put the booth together in time for the Aug. 13-18 event.

Fun Seekers' annual picnic July 21

Larry Bauer presided at the Fun Seekers May meeting held at the YWCA of Steubenville and attended by 68 members.

Joann Bugin gave the invocation and benediction. Reports were given by Secretary Mary Beth Bauer and Treasurer Barbara Losey.

The Nominating Committee, including Jim Fulciniti, Rosemary Gaynor and Edna Michetti, will give their report on filling the offices of president and treasurer at the August meeting.

Jim DeFallo led a quiz, and Mary Beth Bauer conducted dice games.

Chuck Kettle won the 50/50 drawing, and Mary Morelli won the dinner award. Barbara Purks, Sam DiMeo, Chuck Pearce, Walt Klepadlo, Frank Bednarek, Beverly Dibiase, Grace Huber, Jim Fulciniti, Joann Bugin, Tony LaRosa, Dolores LaRosa, Edith Cooper and John Tucci won prizes donated by Dino and Pat Rossi.

The annual picnic will be held at noon July 21 at Aracoma Park in Mingo Junction, Ohio. Each family is asked to bring a covered dish.
